16 MarThe lovely people at Seka Cosmetics recently interviewed me for their blog….
Q&A with Kate O’Reilly
1. How did your career begin in the world of beauty?
I wanted to be a makeup artist from the moment I discovered it existed. I worked on the makeup counters in Brown Thomas when I was in College studying English and Philosophy. Then when I was finished my degree, I got a full time position with MAC Cosmetics, and built up my training, experience and contacts. After traveling the world in 2006, I struck out on my own and have been working as a freelance makeup artist ever since.
2. What or who inspired you to pursue a career in makeup, and do you have a makeup artist that inspires you?
A friend of my Mam saw Kevyn Aucoin on The Oprah Show and decided to send me his book. That was a huge moment for me, to realize how big a deal Kevyn’s work was. From then on I was determined! Today I am inspired by so many Makeup Artists. Gucci Westman is one of my favorites.
3. What is a day in the life of Kate O’Reilly like?
I could be doing absolutely anything on any given day. From driving around the city doing wedding trials and appointments to doing a model’s makeup out of the back of my little car on some freezing beach. No two days are the same!
